Headline Story

EMS veteran runs for US President in 2008

In January, the Emergency Medical Service community began stirring with excitement as news spread that Bob W. Hargis, from Oklahoma, has entered the race for the US Presidency in 2008. Hargis is in his 20th year of EMS service, and is currently an Executive Emergency Medical Service Director. He has extensive experience as a Critical Care Paramedic, EMS Instructor and EMS Administrator. The official Hargis for President website tells about some of the interesting types of service to humanity he has been involved in, including teaching EMT instructors in Africa, and living homeless on the streets of Indianapolis to help homeless people. Hargis is listed as an independent, but is planning to run with the support of the Unity08 organization and has a online petition to help get him on the Unity08 Primary election ballot.

What changes could be in store for EMS?

The changes that would take place in the Emergency Medical Services if a veteran Paramedic took the nation's highest office would be immeasurable. One hot topic on the minds of EMS administrators is Medicare Reform that includes improved reimbursement to EMS providers.  Can a Pro-EMS Commander-in-Chief work to improve the reputation and funding of EMS in this nation? These are among the questions that are on the minds of thousands of EMS providers, as they contemplate this possibility. Certainly Mr. Hargis' platform can not be solely based on EMS needs, but he would have the chance to make significant change for the EMS system. Check him out and read more about the Hargis campaign at his website: www.hargis.info
